The All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea is pleased to announce its London 2016 Conference will take place on February 22nd 2016. Titled ‘Addressing Violence against Women and Girls in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea‘, the day-long conference will be held at the Houses of Parliament.
Chaired by the Rt. Hon Fiona Bruce, MP; the Rt. Hon Prof. the Lord Alton of Liverpool; and the Rt. Hon Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, the conference will address the entrenched and extreme violations of women’s rights in the DPRK.
A 2014 Report of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea laid bare an appalling human rights landscape that shocked the conscience of the world. Evidence of the extraordinarily prevalent sexual and gender-based violence committed against women, which was largely pursuant to state policy, is an issue that demands urgent attention. International scrutiny on women’s rights is permanently critical, but no more so than in the case of the DPRK.
The objective of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea in convening this conference is to assemble a wide range of experts in their respective fields, including those with little experience or knowledge of the DPRK, for a dialogue on how North Korea’s women can be better protected by the international community.
Registration: If you wish to attend the conference, please express your interest in an email to James Burt, Secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea (firstname.lastname@example.org) by January 27th 2016. We will confirm your attendance via the email provided and supply you with the relevant information for the day in an attendee pack.
